Galápagos Islands Travel Forum

We are taking an OAT trip to the Galapagos in April/May. I read that sandals and hiking shoes are good. Is it just a matter of preference or do you have some firm suggestions? What do you wear on the boat?
Also, in lieu of a wetsuit, would a rashguard shirt help0 at all with the cool water?
Any advice for the trip is appreciated.

Hi I did 4 nites in the Galapagos last summer (see my tip pages) and yes, good hiking shoes (or hiking sandals) are a must if you plan to explore and plan on some "wet" landings also. I wore both--shoes when on land like at the Darwin research center but sandals when going to bird island.

I wore both a shorty wetsuit and full--depending on where I snorkeled as one current was very cold. I don't think anything less than 3mm will help.

barefoot on the boat, flip-flops, tennisshoes or good hiking sandals for the islands. the guide will tell you what kind of shoes on each landing are required. while wet landings take your shoes in hands.
snorkeled twice in galapagos, once in july and once on december and only had one of these thin surfer shirts.
