| Ankara | Visting Ankara and Istanbul Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 11:38 AM UTC
My wife and are visiting both Istanbul and Ankara in April of this year and would like to know of hotels in Ankara near the Main Bus Terminal. Not too expensive and in a safe area.Any suggestions would be most welcomed. Also in our 2 night stay what are the best places to visit.
I would also like to know of inexpensive local eateries in Istanbul. We want to eat Turkish Shish Kebabs and Kaftas with Turkish bread and fresh salad. I will appreciate as many suggestions as possible. Many thanks. Jayarep. |

Hi ,
Please visit my Ankara page for hotels. The main bus terminal in Ankara is called ASTI. You can reach ASTI from the centre of Ankara which is called "Kizilay" by the underground rail system called "Ankaray". If you take the Ankaray from ASTI Kizilay (Red Crescent= Hilal-i Ahmer) is 7th stop. The hotels are all within the walking distance to Ankaray. There is no hotel at ASTI. Ankara is a safe city if you take the necessary steps. You need not be scared during nights. It is safe. I noticed atyour page that you visited a palce called "cappadocia" in ITaly. The real and world famous cappadocia is in Turkey. Dont forget to visit Cappadocia the land of Fairy Chimneys. It is only 5 hours away by bus from Ankara.

No Alice. The hotel you stayed is in Ulus district. It is also a remoure place during the night. Unfortunately you reserved the hotel from Perth. The hotels that I recommend is very near to the restaurant where we had Kebab. Our Ankara visiter can also have kebab at the same restaurant. The kebab house of the Olimpia Wrestling Champ.I think you have the adress. I lost it. If I time tomorrow I will go there and write the adress.
Please tell my sincere regards to your husband and Juliex.

Hi
There aren't any hotels around bus terminal. But there is a metro system which goes to Tandogan,Maltepe and Kizilay where you can find many hotels. In Ankara old castle and its surrounding area (Samanpazari) is a nice place with ancient houses, antique shops, traditionla clotes shops, spices shops etc, little tea and gozleme houses ,restaurants with panoramic view and traditional turkish food.)......Also you can visit Kizilay ( there ask for sakarya street with its fastfood restaurants, fish stores, beer restaurants etc ) and for Yuksel street (where you will see the youth ) These are not touristic beautiful places but you will see different faces of Ankara... http://www.pbase.com/helenpb/ankaras_old_city http://www.ankaracityguide.com/

The closest decent hotel to ASTI (bus terminal) is Gazi Park Hotel:
http://www.gaziparkhotel.com/ It is 5 min to ASTI by taxi and should cost you around 60-70 US$. Enjoy your stay.

I'm new to this forum, and I see postings that say "For recommendations regarding hotels in Ankara, see my page." A member (SirVictor) said that, for example. How do I access those pages? Can someone supply a link please.
I am looking for good, clean hotel for early August - non smoking room with air conditioning. Triple occupancy. We're planning to visit the mausoleum and the museum of anatoalian civilizations Thanks!
