Hi! I recommend you to visit "Thap Lan National Park" covering area in Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachinburi Provinces. It consists of continuous and spectacular mountain ranges and natural glamors like valleys, chasms and waterfalls which are the origins of two major rivers in the Eastern and Northeastern parts of Thailand. The highlight of this national park is that it is home to the largest and last Fan Palm forest remaining in the country. This one is also Thailand’s second biggest national park. Here, you can enjoy trekking, camping, bird watching, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, swimming or just unwinding on a beach of Lam Plai Mart Dam. It has become a popular attraction of this region. Let’s check out for its beautiful pictures and travel information. Hope that both of you will have a wonderful moment there!

If you have a car, drive to Loei Province that is NW of Roi Et. I've never been myself, but there are quite a few national parks there with waterfalls and trails.

My first choice for a trek would be Phu Kradung National Park. It is an amazing place on a flat-topped mountain. However, you are close to Surin. I would consider a tour of Khmer ruins with Mr. Pirom, who has a guesthouse in Surin.
