| Melbourne | Ferry to Tasmania Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 01:46 AM UTC
Hi all, do not know my way aroung Melb. very well, need to catch the ferry as above, friends said the terminal is well marked once on the West Gate Bridge, I will be approaching from either Adelaide or Hamilton. Will either of these routes take me onto the bridge and is the sign to Port Melb clearly visible?

You will need to get onto the Westgate Freeway, also known as Geelong Rd, which will take you over the Westgate bridge. Watch your speed as there are revenue raising...opps...I mean speed cameras both on the freeway and on the 80kph bridge. You should be able to see the ferry and its pier from the top of the bridge. It will be on your right. As you start to decend the bridge ensure you are in the left lane! At the foot of the bridge is a petrol station. Turn off as if you were going to go into it. The off ramp that you will now be on very soon leads to a T junction. Turn left. Then turn left again at the first roundabout. Drive straight through the second one. Few seconds later you are at traffic lights....go straight through. Narrow road curves to left....and after about one km turn right into the first street running off it. Is narrow with houses on either side. After about one km you go over a light rail crossing and then you come to a roundabout. Turn right at this....and it will be a few hundred metres in front of you.

Thank you for your replies, have printed off Simone,s and will keep it with me. Now I just need to know how to get onto that Westgate freeway from Ballarat Road, do i turn off somewhere near Deer Park?
I,m waiting on a work bonus and investing in a GPS system, driving alone is difficult.

You will be coming down the Western Freeway from Ballarat along the Western Freeway
You will drive through Deer Park and turn right onto the Western Ring Road on ramp (Can't miss it - a big sign) You will drive along Western Ring Road and bear left onto the West Gate Freeway on ramp (Can't miss it - a big sign)

To be clearer when you drive through Deer Park you do not have to leave the road you are on
