Hi, apart from be warned that there have been bombs in Hat Yai in the last 3 years I always try to stop this myth that ipods/computer are cheap in Thailand. They are not compared to western countries at least.

Recently a British kid was killed by a fake charger for his game machine. The parents bought it in Phuket and it electrcuted him. There are so many fakes in Thailand I never reccomend buying electrical goods there! (fakes use inferior and even dangerous components)

I only have 2 answers for you:

1. Depending on what you want to shop. Lee Garden Plaza and Central Department Store is in the heart of downtown Hatyai. I find that Odeon (OD) Department Store has better bargain. If u want to buy dried food like dried shrimp, nuts, you should go to Kim Yong Market.

3. When I was in Hatyai, I saw many small stalls sell electronics goods inside Santisok Market. I'm not sure about the quality and price.

You can check out my Hatyai page for more info too... Hope my answers help you a little.
