| Svalbard | Cost of a beer Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 02:20 PM UTC
This must seem like a bit of a shallow question, but can anyone give me an idea of the cost of a bottle of beer in Longyearbyen. Ditto for wine etc. Just curious. Am planning a summer holiday to Longyearbyen with some friends, and while we aren't drunken students, it would be good to get a ball park figure for our evenings' frivolities. Many thanks.

Hi - can't remember the exact prices but they are about 25% off the mainland prices because of Svalbard's tax free status. You will have to show your passport though because it's rationed for the locals. Svalbard is fantastic! Enjoy!

Everything is fairly expensive in Norway, even without the 25%...but where can you go to see scenery like this...worth every bit of what you spend.
