HI EVERYONE,
we are planning a trip to morocco in october, after we visit egypt. we were looking at renting a riad for a week in the medina in marrakech......my questions is, i have heard many people saying a few days is enough for this city. is a week in fact too long?? we are not big on museums, but love shopping and souvernier bargaining!!!!....we like to relax at night,eat out, and just chill basically. does marrakesh have a modern area too, with more european style stores?? is there desert tours or mountain tours available? sorry for all the questions, we just decided this weekend to go there, so not had a lot of time to read up on the area properly....many thanks for any answers...

Hi. I had been 10 days in morrocco in jan 2007. The Medina is fabolous!!! it is a most to visit the souk.
There is a lot of expeditions to go in the Atlas, and pass 3 days in a original desert tent in an oasis!!!!.
There is a little modern places and stores and restaurants. The hotel out side Medina are very good, I was at Kensi farah, near Medina (8 minute walk) and 300mts from casino.

Hi - I also think a few days in Marrakech is enough. But if you get out of the city, you can easily spend a few extra days exploring so a week should be good. If you like shopping and bargaining, you'll love the souks! It's insane.... Enjoy!

We are just back from a visit to marrakech (5 days) and for us it was more than enough. Marrakech itself has not too much to offer, specially if you are not interested in museums. If you like shopping/bargaining you will enjoy the souks and medina. For us it was just annoying !!
The new city has some modern shops, but not too impressive.

Visits to the Atlas Mountains - Telouet and Tin Mal - (by 'grand taxi' and rental car) were the highlights of our stay.

good choice marackech will take your time hahaha ; you can try something as all tourist do ( you stay in marackech some days and try an experience at the mounts then the duns . you will like it ). about shoping many european have thier own bussnis there the city is mix with all things you could have in your mind .
shops and modern markets ..... ( try to do not spend all your money there )
try an experience with camel into the duns of erg chebbi ( specialy adrouine) a beautiful town .
on the way you will visit ( dades todgha ) ...

so you can finf what do you want in marrakech : european style and the traditionel one .
for desert you should come come to merzouga ou m'hamid, and you should pass by my city "ouarzazate",ion this erea you can visit desert and mountains,
mountains in marrakech i advice you to visit "toubkal parc"
