| Jerusalem | Bet She'an transportation Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 06:34 PM UTC
We are planning to cross into Israel from Jordan at Bet She'an in early March 2008. Researching the internet indicates that rental cars are not available in Bet She'an, but Egged has busses to Jerusalem We would appreciate any information on:
1. Bus time between Bet She'an and Jerusalem. 2. Whether there is any transportation between Tiberias and Bet She'an as we can return a rental car in Tiberias before we cross back into Jordan. 3. Recommended sites, budget hotels, and restaurants in the Galilee area. 4. Driving time between Mesada and Tiberias. |

1. Egged bus schedule in English: http://www.egged.co.il/Eng/
From Bet She'an to Jerusalem, on a Sunday for instance: Hour Line Type 05:00 961 express 06:00 961 express 07:05 961 express 07:06 961 express 08:00 966 express 09:30 961 express 10:40 961 express Hour Line Type 12:30 961 express 12:30 948 col. 14:30 966 express 15:30 961 express 16:45 948 col. 17:00 961 express 18:55 961 express Route price Bet She'an - Jerusalem : 42.00 NIS. 2. Sorry but there are no direct buses between Tiberius and Bet She'an, but buses that go from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv to Tiberius, go via Bet She'an - or they used to, anyway. Worth calling Egged and asking for more specifics... For more information Call center *2800, or 03-6948888 There might be sherut (group taxi) available for that route too. 3. For accommodations I suggest that you check out: ILH - http://www.hostels-israel.com/ and IYHA - http://www.iyha.org.il/eng/ Sorry I can't help you with driving times - I don't drive. Welcome and Enjoy!

A little correction to the above. Buses from Tel-Aviv to Tiberias wouldn't pass Bet Shean. Only bus number 961 from Jerusalem to Tiberias passes Bet Shean. And there two of these a day. You can get Connex bus number 28 from Tiberias to Bet Shean. You can take it from Tiberias central bus station.
You can find driving routes and times in English at http://www.emap.co.il. According to them the distance from Massada to Tiberias is 190 km and the driving time is 2:26 hours. Notice that this is if you take the direct route which goes through the west bank. Notice that if spend time in Massada, you also have the option of going back to Jordan via the border crossing next to Eilat. You don't need to go to Beit Shean.

Thank you both for the information. I was aware of the Eilat crossing but we are returning to Amman. Bet She'an appears to be much more convenient and we would like to drop the rental car as close to there as we can. Tiberias looks like the nearest rental drop.
