Family Friendly/scenic/historical sites Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 06:42 PM UTC
Our family of four will be traveling to the Flumserberg region of Switzerland in Mid March of 2008. We will be staying in Flumserberg. With two kids, 11 and 13, we are looking for some suggestions for a day trip or two to Lichtenstein. We will be traveling by car and would like to visit some family friendly/scenic/historical areas in Lichtenstein.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
We also be posting questions like this for Germany and Austria too.

You might take a look at the Lichtenstein tourism website, or one for Vaduz. In Austria, you might take a look at Innsbruck. They have a streetcar museum, a cable car, and the Alpenzoo. In Germany, there is always Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can travel to the top of the Zugspitze, they have sledding, there is also an indoor skating rink, and an indoor wave pool. Gary

If you'll list how long you will be in Europe, and what your main travel interests are, we can give you more precise suggestions. Gary

Hey Gary,
We are going to be in the Flumserberg area for 2 weeks. We plan on talking a series of day trips (probably one to each country) to the neighboring countries. The rest of the time we'll spend in the surrounding area soaking up the winter sports and local fare. This will be our relaxing portion of the vacation.
As an aside, we are spending an additional week in Bern where we'll visit Bern and other cities like Interlaken, Luzern.

I think I'll wait and see if others have some suggestions before I step back in. I didn't travel in Switzerland very much at all. You can look at the travel pages and forums here on VT, and look at the tourism and rail sites for Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Germany. I do know that some of the mountain passes and roads in these areas do close. If no one else steps in, or you have more questions, I'll be happy to help though. Gary

Hi,
it will all depend on the transportation you choose, with a car you are more flexible.
Liechtensteinis worth a trip, you can do a day trip to Vaduz.
In addition I would suggest visiting the mediaval town Werdenberg, it's just across the river Rhine from Liechtenstein.
If you want more snow for skiing or sledding you go to Malbun and Steg, two ressort in Liechtenstein, up at around 1500meter altitude.
You may consider a day trip to Sankt Gallen, about one hour from your place, this would be something for bad weather. There you have a nice old town and a well known old library.

If ou have kids and the weather is bad you may go to the Alpamare, a fun bath about 45 minutes from your place.

Email me with specific questions, I live nearby, but I will travel during the time you are here.
Happy travelling
Peter/Loisl
