| Huangshan | a little confused Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 07:54 AM UTC
I have read all the posts and am still a little confused.
Once I step foot off of my 9am overnight train in Tunxi, what EXACTLY must I do from there to get to Mt. Huangshan? I need step by step instructions because I'm a little slow. I don't care which peak I'm on just as long as there is a place for me to crash at the top. Do I take a bus?? If so which one and how much? And from there then what? I plan on hiking or cable car, no guide. And I don't want to stay at the base because I want the best view in the morning. I am on a budget so recommend the most cost efficient and time efficient methods. I only can stay one night on the mountain then have to go back down. Is that enough time?? can i do it in two days max?? And what is the cheapest place to stay? Do the Chinese hostels have towels?? Thanks for your help. |

Wow what a post. One day/morning at the peak is probably enough if you really must rush.
Even cheap Chinese accomodation should be able to provide you with a (small, crappy) towel. Sorry I'll have to leave the rest of your questions to someone else. But have a good trip!

Accommodation hotel/hostel up on the hill is heavily booked, so you should book in advance if you plan to stay overnight there.
Our group van picked up some travellers who arrived from the overnight train at Tunxi to go directly to the base of the Huangshan in the morning we went up Huangshan. I made my arrangement with China Travel Service. You might want to try them.

If you do not arrive in Huangshan at weekend or during the Golden week, it's not so difficult to book a hotel on top of Mt.
There is bus service linked train station and Mt., staying one night on the mountain should be ok, only few tourists stay more nights. Good luck.

Find a seat on a minibus going to Tangkou.
Cheapest accommodation would be dorm with no ensuite. Book in advance through a good agent to get the best prices. Yes, possible to do it in 2 days. Hostels/dorms will NOT provide towels.
