| Crete Island | Sorry, just want to clarify Posted: Sat January 19, 2008 03:45 AM UTC
I'll be in Crete for 4 days in June (5-9). The first 2 days in Rethymno, the other 2 in Heraklio. I then board a ferry from Heraklio to Thira. Except.... that no matter what line I search I can not find a ferry that travels from Heraklio to Thira. Does anyone one how often they would run or even IF they run? I can't rememebr if I asked this before... I'm a sick kid right now and the only thing that makes me feel any better is thinking about warm sands and refreshing waters...

There is definitely ferry from Heraklio to Thira in June. (Thira being Santorini of course).
Once you get there you can book your ticket in any travel office in Rethymno or Heraklio. There are also ferry from Rethymno to Santorini (Thira). As far as I know, last year, there was a choice between ferry and a speed boat that got you there much faster. Once you there it is really no problem booking all the tickets. It is much harder to do it in advance from US. Also....2 days in HEraklio? In my opinion, Heraklio does not have tooo much to offer. They have a great museum, but I am not sure if it opened yet in the new building (they were in the proces of moving/building last summer). There is Knossos just a short bus ride. My number one cities in Crete are Chania and Rethymno, but my realy favorite are quiet little villages. Have fun traveling and don't worry about booking your ferry.

Here is the website, although next season's timetable is not yet available.
http://www.ferries.gr/hfd/ Make note that the ferry doesn't operate on certain Wednesdays.
