Kristiansand Jellyfish in the harbour
Posted: Sat September 20, 2003 03:58 PM UTC
I was in Kristiansand about a week ago and when I looked over the side of the ship I was on I could see lots of jellyfish swimming about. Is this a common problem in the sea around that area?

Jellyfish are common along the coast of Norway. I wouldn't call them a problem though. There's seldom so many that it bothers swimers and bathers.

Good previous tip on plastic bags.
I go angling regulary and it is the
bags/ tins that when emptied of bait
then left on the bank side, causing
death & injury to wild life that is getting us banned from some lakes & sections of river.

Jelly fish were abundant when i arived at Kristiansand on a boy scout trip in 1973.

Hehe yup Kristiansand has a lot of jellies int he harbour, but they are no real threat. When you go out on the boats, and park up to the islands scattered around the coast, you just have to pick a spot that is less populated (which is common sense anyway haha) There is the usual 2-3 around the parts you are swimming, you just have to watch yourself, i had no problems in summer time, so im sure you will be fine!!!
