Wayne,
There are ATM's all over the place just like north of the border, Pesos are used in restaurants and shops and when you go to the ATM you will get Pesos not dollars. Just about anyone in the hotels speaks English so don't worry about not knowing the language, most everyone will be able to communicate with you in some way.

ATM's are also the best rate for getting pesos. Which is the way to go so you don't have to keep doing math in your head (they're better at it than you are)
I usually advise people to go to banks for cash...and during business hours. Because.......what happens it the machine eats your card? What are you going to do stand around waiting for the servicer and hope he speaks English? Doesn't happen all that often, no. But it only teakes once to spoil your trip in a big way. There are banks all over downtown, and in the "Golden Zone" where the hotels are.
