| Auckland | New Zealand - stopover in Auckland - two simple questions Posted: Thu January 17, 2008 01:09 PM UTC
Hi guys, thank you very much for your help ahead. Im staying one night in Auckland as stopover on my way to Tahiti and French Polynesia. Anyway, my two simple questions:
1) Any recommendation to a cheap budget place (hostel or similar) for one night? Central preferable. Please specific suggestions... 2) What should I not miss in my about 24 hour layover? City???? - worth, breathtaking, nothing special? Other places in the town? Really appreciate jirikoo |

Not sure of your budget, but there are plenty of hostels, hotels in Auckland. Try hostels.com, they give ratings from previous travellers and they have quite a list for Auckland.
As for must sees: A drive or bus ride along Tamaki Drive to Mission Bay A ferry trip to Devonport (20 mins) The Sky Tower The view from One Tree Hill ( if you don't want to pay to go up the Sky Tower) The Viaduct Basin (cafes galore) right on the waterfront The people, New Zealanders are nice people Take the 'Link' bus, NZ$2.20 for a circular ride around the city, takes about an hour although you can stay on all day if you want.

Go to the top of the sky tower for a 360 view of all of auckland...amazing views of the harbour and islands of the gulf. Views in all directions. Also to the top of One Tree Hill for great overview and a wonderful park to walk around the trees and sheep and have icecream at the kiosk.
