| Rio de Janeiro | Transportation to the Quilt Store in Niteroi... Posted: Thu January 17, 2008 04:30 AM UTC
Now that I know where the quilt store is located in Niteroi...thank you Gary....can someone advise me about how to get there. I will take the ferry across from the Centro region. I'll take a taxi from the hotel in Ipanema.
Once I am in Niteroi...I need to find Av Quintino Bocaiuva 325 / Shopping Lido Center. Would I be best to take a taxi? If so, should I have a price agreement before I get in the taxi....and...what would you consider to be a fair price.... Lots of questions...and I deeply appreciate all the help that I have received!! We do have a tour guide, but he told me that he wouldn't take me there. Thank you so much again!!! I hope this isn't a repeat...sorry if it is! |

If I were you, I wouldn't go to this store. It's (very) far from Ipanema and it's a really small store. I don't think you'll have a big business there...
But, if you really (REALLY!) want to try, we can explain you how to reach there! G'Luck!

Hello
I said to you before that i live in brazil and if you have some doubt I would help you. For you go to Niteroi you should take a bus or boat. alexsanderrj@hotmail.com 55 (21) 97124114

Thank you both, Henrique and Alexsander for your responses. I realize that it might be a small store...but it's the only one!
We are going to take the ferry over from Centro....then visit the little tourist booth. We'll most likely take a taxi to the shop. I see on my maps that it is a distance from Ipanema, but it will be an adventure for the morning. A chance to go to Niteroi and see beautiful Rio from 'the other side'. It will be something a little different to talk about to my friends when they ask..what did you do in Rio?? I will rely on taxis...I'd love to take the bus, but it'll probably take too long, and without local language and only a map...it would prove too difficult. I am so happy to have found the store...and am very pleased that you've been able to help!! I thank you very much!

If you take a taxi from Ipanema to Niteroi, you should call the taxi and negotiate the price in advance. This can make a big difference in the price. Ive paid anywhere from $R 48 to $R70 to get to Niteroi from Botafogo. Many taxistas will levy a hefty surcharge on top of the meter to go to Niteroi because of the long drive back across the bridge, especially at high traffic times, where it can take as much as an hour and a half to get from Ipanema to some parts of Niteroi, so it pays to negotiate the fee in advance. You may want to arrange for return trip as well.

Thank you, pagode, for your words of experience. We're not sure how we're getting to Centro to the Ferry terminal...but we're going to take the ferry to Charitas....then a cab to the quilt store. Another poster has been very helpful in our quest to go to the quilt store. Charitas is only about a mile or so from the store....and we'll just reverse our steps to go back to Centro.
One thing I've learned from you, and from other readings, is to get the cost of the taxi ride agreed upon up front!! Our trip is getting closer and we're really getting excited!! Thank you again for your help!
