Hello
Bottled water comes in 0.75 litre , 1 litre , and 1,5 litre . The 1.5L costs around 2,5 Egyptian Pounds , more or less by half a pound , Try to buy them from a local Supermarket , it would be good if the supermarket is not in a tourist area . Have fun

I would think that they may search your bags on the Cruise?
Anyone have this experience?

They never searched my bags while I was on a cruise. They will do when entering special sites like Tempels or Museums and such.

That's funny, But I am now beginning to wonder how much it is on the ship also.
I am surpised they don't check bags, I was told by a friend that they searched bags when returning to a crusie ship in the caribbean.

Hi M+M,
You guys really now how to use a camera. I had a look at your photostream on www.flickr.com/photos/mfour I only got as far as l'Hotel de glace but I'll see the rest for sure. Instead of spending all day leaving comments on them all “They're all brilliant”. Can't wait to see your pics when you get back from this trip. I think the price of water on the boat must be a state secret. Hmmm, strokes chin and thinks??? Unless,,,,,,,,,,,nobody on the forum has actually been on a cruise they are just pretending,,,,,,so that means,,,,,,strokes chin again and grins,,,,,,,nobody knows the answer. On another note have a glorious time out there. Oooh, I tell you what I was thinkin'..... 'cos I only just picked up on your other posts on other parts of the site/forum this morning..... I only go to Luxor you see. On your itinerary you only have one day in Luxor. Which will probably be a whistle stop tour from the boat on the 17th, you have the whole of the 18th set aside for one flight. So as I was thinkin'..... if you wanted to squeeeeeeeeze an extra day in Luxor to go back and have a proper look at something or even go somewhere the tour did not take you you could......spend the 18th in Luxor then get the night train to Cairo 1st Class sleeper. From posts I've read on here I think it gets in to Cairo very early. So then you check into hotel and start your time in Cairo. It should also save you one night in your Cairo Hotel. Here we go. From The Transport. Trains. Page By JohnniOmani on April 9, 2007 Travelling to and from Luxor is easily done by train and most foreigners by pass any bus because the journeys are usually long. Luxors train station is located in the center of the town. Abela Egypt Sleeping Train (237 2015 or www.sleepingtrains.com) leave at 830pm and 930pm daily arriving in Cairo at 545am and 645am the next morning. The cost is around $53 US which must be paid in Euros or US dollars. The other train that foreigners take is the 981 departing at 915am , train 1903 departing at 915pm and train 997 departing at 1110pm. The trip takes about 10 hours and student discounts are available. Foreigners are permitted to take the 3 daily services to Aswan (train 996 leaves at 715am) (train 1902 leaves at 930am) and 980 leaves at 5pm all taking around 3 hours. All three trains to Aswan stop at Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo. For more info Also check out http://www.seat61.com/Egypt.htm Fresh off the wire, Water on the boats can be as much as 10-15EL per bottle depending on the boat. (star rating I should imagine). Just don't take the water you bought ashore to the table, and if you did want to do the train journey you WILL need to book in advance. Have a great time. Peace and Blessings. Jim...

Thanks for having a look at my pictures. I really enjoy takening them and even more so when I know others can appreciate them.
In regards to Luxor. He is our day 3 & 4 Itinerary copied Day 3 Breakfast on board. Visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu. Sail to Luxor. Lunch on board. Afternoon Tea. Dinner on board and Galabya Pparty. Overnight in Luxor. Day 4 Breakfast on board. Visit West Bank - Valley of the Kings and Queens, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El Bahari and the Collossi of Memnon. Lunch on board. Visit Karnak and Luxor Temples. Afternoon Tea. Dinner on board and Belly Dance Show. Overnight in Luxor After doing research I think we cover about 90% of Luxor, on the day we check out of the boat we are taking a hot air baloon ride and then a tour of Dendra and the Valley of the Nobles. Thank you for the suggestion of the overnight train. I had considered the train, but at this point I think we are leaning towards the filght so we can enjoy another evening in Cairo. I hear it really wakes up at night. I love Photographing places at night also so there is added incentive.

We payed 5 LE and up on board for a 1,5 l. bottle of water. 5 LE is about 1$. Maybe that is not much. But you will drink a lot of water and the price ashore is 1,5 LE, so it easily saves you a few dollars having your water from ashore.

No one check our bags. I had been on two different Nile River Cruise ships, King of Thebes & Queen of Sheeba. Both of them did not check our bags and their services are excellent & very accomodating. You can bring your left over bottle water back to the room from the dinning area too. I had been on 2 ships because the King of Thebes engine had flooding problem (as I heard) after 1 day of sail & we had to board the other ship which is the Queen of Sheeba. Later, they brought back all the left overs from guest rooms to the new ship for lost & found. I like the Nile Cruise services.

hello, i'm back.
A bottle of water costs 8LE on my boat, 2 - 2.5 LE on shore and we did bring a few bottles onto the boat. We went through them quite fast since we also used bottled water to brush our teeth. No one ever checked our bags.

I guess if you buy it on the boat then it will be cold and quite thirst quenching. Also stocking up on water can make the luggage quite heavy I would have thought. Does it then follow that if we want to buy everything cheaper than they sell it on the boat that one buys bottles of beer and coke in local supermarkets.
It does surprise me all this-- we are quite willing to be ripped off by unscrupulous souvenir sellers but haggle over a few pence when it comes to water. What happens to the bottles of water that are bought but not drunk? Are they sold back to the supermarkets or to fellow passengers!

On most cruisers the cabins have fridges, so you can get your water cooled. And believe me, when outside the ship you do will drink a lot of water. Specially during the summer months! And you wont mind wether the water is cool or warm: you will drink it, because you need it!
