| Naples | Ferry to Capri - Postiano? Luggage storage at the train station Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 11:40 PM UTC
Where do you catch a ferry to Capri? I'm looking to go to Capri on 2/15 and am curious about the times and pricing and return trip and exactly where you go for the ferries if I'm walking down Corso Umberto? Also are there ferries to Postiano and if so how long/cost/times? Lastly is there a luggage storage facility at the train station and how much does it cost for all day? Thanks in advance!

There are definitely ferries to both Capri and Positano. I can't remember the ferry company names but all you have to do is go down to the port which you should reach by following Corso Umberto to its end (I could be wrong here but I'm sure someone will corect me if I am). We took a ferry to Positano which left around noon, I think. Can't remember what it cost but it was no more than I expected. The trip was fabulous and we returned on a ferry late that afternoon. It also stops at Sorrento. You'll soon find out which ferry goes to Capri when you get to the port. If you can't see a sign just ask someone, they'll soon point you in the right direction. Unfortunately I didn't go to
Capri, so I can't help you there. I realise also that I haven't been much help with the finer points of your questions due to my fuzzy memory (would you believe that I only did this six months ago? - no accounting for old age!!) Anyway suffice to say that what you want to do is definitely "doable" and well worth it. The Amalfi Coast is a dream. You're going to love it. apri so I can't help you here. I realise also that I haven't been much help with the finer details of your questions, but at my age I can be forgiven for being a bit fuzzy. Suffice to say that what you are wanting to do is definitely doable and definitely woth the effort. The Amalfi Coast is a dream. You're going to love it.

here is the website for (one of) the ferry companies.
http://www.metrodelmare.com SNAV also goes from naples to capri and there's another company that goes to positano but i forget the name. the naples train station has luggage storage and it's probably around 7 euros for the day.

The real problem is that the ferries may not run all year and in all weather. The metrodelmare service is currently "suspended", meaning that it won't begin running again until the end of March. There are, of course, other services, but it may require a little research to see who's running in mid February. If I have a chance, I'll look for some other websites (or hopefully, some will magically appear from other VTers ;-) ).
As for the Left Luggage service at Napoli Centrale, the pricing is a bit odd: "Rates per bag left Deposit rates (for each bag): 3.80 euro for the first 5 hours, 0.60 euro per hour for the next 7 hours (from the 6th to the 12th), 0.20 euro per hour from the 13th hour." So, you have to pay 3.80 euro minimum, which gets you 5 hours, but the cost is per hour after that. Assuming that "all day" for you is 10 hours, the total would then be 6.80 euro, which is pretty much Gabriel's estimate. Bill
