| Angkor Wat | How to arrive from Vietnam and how long do I need to be there? Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 02:22 PM UTC
Hi,
I am planning a trip to Vietnam, and would like to keep a few days to cross and see Angkor Wat. Two questions: Which is the best place or way to cross from Vietnam, via plane, train or whatever? It doesn´t matter the city in Vietnam where I do need to depart from, I have plenty of time to arrange. How many nights/days would I need to see angkor? Thxs!! |

HI! Jon:
To enter the Park leading to Angkor Wat, you need to buy a pass - a day for US$20, 3 days for US$40 and a week for US$60 so that kinda determines how many days you wish to spend @ Angkor. Have pages on Siem Reap & Angkor should you wish to take a look and see if the tips are any useful.

I would suggest you fly it is a long trip from Saigon-Phnom Penh then another day by boat to Siem Reap. It depends on what other temples you want to check out I would suggest a minimum of 2 days but dont forget you need a visa to enter Cambodia then a ticket for Angkor Watt plus transport. We stayed at Bou Savy GH($US15 for a twin inclduing b/fast & airport pick up check their website) and used their driver at $US20 a day they also arranged a guide also $US20 a day if you are travelling alone this can be costly. Hope this is helpful

Hi Jontxu,
A stay of 3 days at Angkor Wat is good enough if you want to see the main temples. If you want to go to the more far away temples like Rouluos group or Bantey Samre, you will need about 6 days, so that you don't get too tired. We had stayed at Two Dragons guesthouse at Siem Reap, and I'll recommend it to anyone who is heading there. Check it out on the net. About actually going to the temples, you have options of hiring a car, taking a tuk-tuk or hiring a moto driver (in decreasing order of price). Hope this helps.

You can enter Siem Reap by air from Vietnam- a most convenient way with Vietnam Airlines: from Hochiminh upto six times a day or from Hanoi twice a day. combination tickets are possible but you will have to get a travel agent to do that for you. Zuji.com.sg is a good on line travel agent.
For first time visitor I recommend at least three days just to do the main temples. it is 20 usd for one day entrance and 40 for two or three days. no need to bring a photo they have technology to take a picture (like at their immigration as well). Visa on arrival 20 usd, takes just a few minutes. SE Asians dont need visa, but others do. For the first time visitors I also recommend a guide, about 25 usd per day, and a driver 20 usd per day. If you are two or more, car is a better aleternative, especially when the weathere is dry and hot. I usually stay at Mandalay Inn, look at the website. Plenty of choices to eat from, from Khmer to French to pseudo cuisines. No cuban restaurants as yet! he he..Money is USD and very seldom riels cambodienne is used, but you would get taht in change. Fruit Juices galore, Beer freely available, not a good selection of wines, good coffee shops. Most importantly please try to get to know some humanitarian organizations so that you can make your visit a little bit more meaningful. Speak to Maung Maung at Mandalay Inn and he could direct you to the various organizations. Also read up on the Angkor Ruinas, before you come and become familiar with all the Hindu Deities depicted there, then the visit becomes even more enjoyable. Sunrise and Sunset at various places if you have the energy. Hasta Luego..
