| Cologne | This weekend in Cologne Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 10:10 AM UTC
Hi All
I'll be in Cologne this weekend, arriving Sat morning and leaving Sun evening. I have accomodation sorted and thanks to good VT tips, I have an idea of where to go to shop til I drop, what beer to order (and how to ensure my glass is not refilled automatically) and a couple of ideas for dinner on Saturday evening. So my two questions are: Which restaurant would you pick between Frueh, Haxenhaus, Rheinterrassen and Gaffel-Haus for dinner on Saturday taking the January weather into consideration? (we want traditional German food), or would you pick another still? Is there anything going on at the moment that we should not miss? A spacial market? An exhibition? Many thanks A, looking forward to curry wursts, kolsch and yogurettes |

You can look at the following website: www.whatsonwhen.com. The don't have a page specifically for Cologne, but you can check under Germany. Gary

Hi!
If you want to see the biggest festival in Cologne, then come on the weekend 2nd and 3rd Feb. ! The festival starts 31st Jan. and ends on the 6th Feb. On 3rd Feb. is the so called Schul un Veedels Zug Parade... It's Karneval! Input "Koelner Karinval" in google and you'll see what I'm talking about...On that weekend, it doesn't matter where you go. You'll have a lot of fun and don't forget to bring a Clown mask ;-)

Thanks for this. I'm not going back for a while but I did see various bands and groups of people in costumes obviously preparing and rehearsing for the carnival.
It was nice to hear the music and songs in various brewery houses and bars without the crowds of the full blown carnival. A.
