| Negeri Johor | Gunung Ledang (Mt. Ophir) - guide compulsory? Posted: Tue January 15, 2008 12:44 PM UTC
Hi. I am thinking about climbing Gunung Ledang (Mt. Ophir) during my holiday - have no time for longer treks. However, I have read some alarming information about guides being now compulsory on this mountain, and also about necessity to have reservation (looks like something very similar to those overregulated Mt. Kinabalu climbs). Does anybody know if this is true?
And if this is true (and I sincerely hope not as I hate to be bothered by guides who are always trying to change any trek to their usual pattern) what are the rules? Thanks |

Hey there, I can I will be able to answer your questions.
It is true that guides being compulsory for Gunung Ledang. Well to me it isn't much a trouble because it is for your safely. Having said that, a small fee will be charged. For the exact amount please contact the local foresty department. For your other question, it is better to have a reservation because the guides might not be always free. The guides are constantly bringing people up and down the mountain therefore there might not be sufficient guides. For your last question, I do not really understand what you meant by 'rules'? Basically the rules in the jungle are all the same. Thats all I have to say for now.

What?! You need a guide to climb Mt Ophir? It's only 4187ft for goodness sake.
I'm having second thoughts about this already.
