Munnar Need Suggestions for Honeymooners
Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 07:17 PM UTC
Hello past/present fellow honeymooners:

We chose Munnar as our honeymoon destination. I need some guidance regarding Resorts, House Boats and Tree houses. I invite the past honeymooners to Munnar to suggest us on,

1. The Resorts for honeymooners where there is ample privacy, excellent view, reasonably comfortable. In short which resort is the Best for honeymooners.

2. About Houseboats, I understand the house boat ride would be for longer hours. How safe are they? both from water and from locals.

3. Tree House: I also want to expereince this tree house which is unique. Did any ony stayed in Tree house, if so, please let me know how far these are from the town? Is staying a night or two in a tree house safe for honeymooners?

thanks for your patience for going through all these..But please let me know whatever info you guys have. Thanks.

Hello - I've never been on a honeymoon so I can't advise about that, but I did do an overnight houseboat tour in the Allepey area.

The waterway that I was on was quite narrow, so you were only a few metres from both banks most of the time. As for safety from locals, there is a crew on the boat who look after everything, so as long as you pick a company you feel confident with, you can trust them to look after you. I don't know about other routes, but we moored in the middle of nowhere for the night. The areas along the backwaters in Allepey (and I guess elsewhere in Kerala) are inhabited, but not densely - if anyone were to commit a crime on a houseboat, it would be relatively easy to find the culprits. I can't imagine that it happens a lot.

I've only ever been to one other place where things seemed as safe as Kerala, and that was a tiny village in Italy. As well as the houseboat, I stayed in a traditional house where there were no locks. It was fine and quite an experience to be able to not do those things. I think the isolation in the backwater helps.

There are, however, cockroaches on the houseboats and anywhere else that has cracks for them to get in! Reason enough to take a mosquito net...

Dear Sir/Madame

All of the Munnar hotels & resorts are very honeymoooner's friendly. The best should be opt from your budget.

2) Houseboats are very safe & modern locals in Alleppy & Kumarakom are very much Tourist friendly but beware of touts.

3) You can choose Carmelia Heaven in Thekkady for Tree House Stay very well appointed & good seervice.
