| Crete Island | Where to stay for Greek Easter Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 01:59 PM UTC
Hello to all
I would love some help about where to stay for Greek Easter. It will be a part of a 3 week trip to Greece for my wife and I with about 10 of those days being in Crete. I would like to find a place in Western or Central Crete. My concern is that if we choose a small town there will be nothing (including restaurants?) open. On the other hand a smaller place may give us a more unique Easter experience...Generally speaking we are not party goers or beach dwellers particularly. We are going to Greece (Crete) to experience the food, beauty, culture and hitory of the place. You have been most helful on htis forum before. Thank you |

Easter is celebrated with family in Greece, like Christmas in Western Europe.
The week before is mourning, with Good Friday with churchbells ringing and a procession at evening. Maybe Chania is a good place to stay, with harbour and restaurants and you can easily visit small villages at the seaside and in the mountains ánd on the south side of Crete ( paleochora for example). Crete has a reputation for using fire-arms, used after Easterservice !! When you visit Eastersunday villages, it is possible that people invite you to their homes and tables !! EasterMonday is St. Georges nameday, also celebrated. Have a good stay, maria

I thing that you will have a great time in Crete when is Easter, its so nice ... even if you choose east or a small village you will have a very nice experience!
in case you are in Heraklion Good Friday then you have to visit St Titos church close to Liontaria square, its so nice there... but i m sure where ever you go you will have a very nice time!
