Faroe Islands Travel Forum

In June I am planning to go from
Iceland (10 days) to
Faroes (2 nights) to [via a crazy connection in CPH / Aberdeen)
Shetlands (2 nights) to
Orkney (1) nights to
Scotland

Is this a crazy itn?

Is it worth my time to try to fit the Faroes, Shetlands, and Orkney?

Suggestions appreciated!

Not crazy but you will be on planes/boats most the time except for Iceland. If you enjoy the plane/boat transfer experience it will be okay but I have been to all of these places with the exception of the Faroes and believe that you could spend all of your days in just one location. You really won't get much of an Orkney or Shetland feel in the days alotted and they really deserve more - they are fascinating places but you won't get this experience in such a short amount of time.

There is really very little point in spending only one night on Orkney. You will only see Kirkwall (where the airport is). See my Orkney pages to understand why!

Better to focus your visit on one set of islands, I think. As stated above, you'll be spending most of your time in airports/flying if you follow this itinerary.

I agree. Having been to all of the places myself, I can say you need much more time. I suggest cutting out one or two of them and rather come back for a visit later.

Hi well now its already July so maybe youve had your trip - would be interesting to see what you decided to do! I did a trip all by ferry and then plane from Iceland back to get to the Balmoral highland games and it all luckily timed nicely - I had the ferry connection timetables between the islands and off I went - John of Groats to the Orkneys - but I loved it there and couldnt leave after whatever originally it would be 3 days or something so your 1 day would be a shame! think i stayed 10 days - which included a flight to Fair Isle and visiting most of the islands - then onto to the Shetlands which was a rush with only 2 nights or was it 1 night and 2 days - and then to the Faroes - which I loved too and couldnt leave after the orignal plan to go with the next boat so had a week or something instead of the 2 nts and then to Iceland - drove right across the island to meet my plane at Keflavik.

Was excellent!
