| Angkor Wat | Feb in Angkor Wat?? Posted: Sun January 13, 2008 07:20 PM UTC
I'm going to Angkor Wat in either Febuary or early March. How will the weather be around this time? Is it a good time to go? Will there be alot of tourists or a moderate amount of tourists? To appropriatly cover Angkor Wat and the surrounding area, how long would it take to do this? Besides Angkor Wat, what else is recommended to see in the area?
Thanks |

hello,
the weather in feb/march willbe great to see angkor wat as this is the dry season and will be less humid to walk about, unfortunately this is peak tourist season too so will be busy!!! You will need about 3 days to do angkor justice so definately definately get the 3 day pass for about $40 which is a bargain and every moto driver will ask if you want to do a tour for about $15-20 for the three days. They will basically drive you from temple to temple and you can stay at each temple for as long as you like while you wait outside. This too is worth doing as some temples are quite far apart. Apart from Angkor, there are some floating villages and drowned forests, which I did not get to, but the town of Siem Reap is lovely, with some great restaurants and a good market. We stayed about 4 nights, which was enough to get everything we wanted to in, but would have been nice to stay longer. karen

I personally try my best to avoid tourists. When would you suggest be a good time to go then? The heat does not bother me at all.
thanks

The only way to avoid tourists is not to go there. When I went there 3 years ago, there wasn't a moment without seeing other tourists, especially along the main route. Eg. the hill where you can have a great sunset view literally had hundereds of people up there when I went there. The morning wait for the sunrise at Angkor Wat had relatively fewer people.
If you don't want to see other tourists, you'll have to travel to the ruins that are far away. There are more upscale hotels being built since then, and this can certainly attract even more people. Traveling there has been popular than ever with more direct flights going to Siem Reap. It's sad to see the place didn't have proper tourist management.

We went in Dec over X-mas and it was just about empty. Maybe if you avoid the Chinese New Year crowd it will be not too crowded. We were templed out on the second day so we visited the floating village and did the hot air balloon ride. That was fun.
Have a great time Ted and tina

Hi,
Feb-Mar in Angkor Wat would be humid, but still better than the summer months. We had gone there last month, and it was quite hot and humid in the day time. Nights were pleasant though. The crowds would definitely be there, but you hardly feel the crowds during early mornings and afternoons. Again, there are very few people visiting the far-away temples, so you can expect those temples to be less crowded. About the number of days to see the temples, I would suggest 6 days if you want to see all of them, or 3 days to see the main ones. We stayed there for 3 days, and could comfortably cover the main temples. Apart from the temples, you should visit the floating villages of Tonle Sap lake. Siem Reap itself is a quaint little town, with a good nightlife and nice, clean restaurants. Hope this helps.
