Hello!
In July 2007 I went to Nessebar together with my wife and two children. In advance we had booked a 3-night stay at Hotel Ipek Palas, a middle-class hotel in Istanbul, where we paid about 200 euros for our stay. The day after we arrived in Nessebar we went to Burgas by bus (40 min.) and booked the bus-tickets to Istanbul for the day after. There are several companies driving between Varna/Burgas and Istanbul, and we chose "Metro", situated in a street called ul. Bulair, about 500 metres distance from the railway-station/main bus station (eastbound). There are several daily departures, but we chose the 12.30-departure. The trip took about 8 hours, inclusive 1 hour at the border. The guards check all bags and suitcases, so be patient! As norwegians we had to pay 20 euros for every person (for the visas), but that`s because we`re not EU-members (unfortunately). Altogether we paid about 150 euros for the trip (2 adults/2 children, both ways). That`s cheap, especially if you`re a norwegian! The distance of about 400 kilometres is quite comfortable. The buses has of course air-condition, and it makes frequent stops for "pee-breaks", because there`s no WC on board. There`s a lot to see along the road as well. But when you arrive at Otogar Esenler (Istanbul`s main bus-station), don`t take a taxi!!! We did , and we got cheated, og course! Take the metro instead, it`s very convenient, fast and cheap. If your hotel in Bulgaria isn`t situated near the ordinary bus-stop, you can ask the driver to stop as close as possible (on the main route) to your hotel on your way back, and then take a taxi the last distance. This will be much cheaper than a taxi all the way from Burgas (as in our case). The buses (Metro) drives from Varna (Albena/Golden Sands), and all the way to Istanbul, so it`s very suitable for most Bulgaria-tourists.
