| Perth | Pay as you go cell phone Posted: Fri January 11, 2008 09:39 PM UTC
Can someone give me the name of a pay as you go cell phone provider and an easy way to find a place to buy one in Perth, close to the Ambassador Hotel if possible.
Thank you |

If you ask the concierge at the Hotel they may know. As far as I know sorry to tell you there are none close to the Hotel. You can choose from Telstra, 655 Hay St Mall. Optus 731 Hay Street or Vodafone Hay Street Mall. It's not too far and there should be a bus going up the Terrace but if not a good walk. Have a nice stay and happy travels.

You will find them at the airport too. Telstra and Optus are the most common.

If you are travelling outside of Perth, I believe Telstra has better coverage in remote areas, check on their website.

Look here http://www.fonezone.com.au/?p=2074
I think you will not find ANY mobile(unless satellite) that will give coverage all across the Nullibor

Check that the towns you are visiting have coverage from the provider you choose. I believe Telstra has the widest coverage.

I find Optus the best provider for pre-paid Griff. Anyway, I hope we can give you a warm welcome to Perth! Don't forget to let me know when you will be arriving here, about 2 weeks before hand and I'll arrange for a vt meet to welcome you to Perth! Cheers, Ann :o)

I prefer Optus too, but mine didn't work up in Exmouth.
You may not actually need to buy a new phone, you may be able to just get a new simcard(about $30au including 30 $'s worth of calls) as my daughter did when she came here, don't know if yours will be compatible, they'd be able to tell you in the shop.

It's actually not for me but for a client. I would be much more overt of my arrival.
My clients phone may still be locked, as her provider here is famous for it, and a new SIM card may not work. Thanks for all your help.

I (and my clients) always advise the people who see me who are travelling around Australia to buy Telstra...it has the most coverage of any of the providors....vodafone gets hardly any coverage once you leave the city areas and optus gets limited coverage in some of the country towns!!
