Cycling in Loire Valley

I've read a lot about how nice it is to bicycle to your destinations around the Loire Valley, but I'm wondering about safety. Is it safe for two mid-20s, American females to be cycling the region by themselves?

What kind of dangers are you worried about?
I would have no second thoughts about cycling in the Loire. Just do it and use common sense like you would everywhere.

If you keep to the right of the road, don't take the motorway with your bike, turn on the lights at dusk and generally respect the basic road rules, it should be safe.

There is a wonderful Loire bike path that is well along in the process of development. Much of it is open. Assuming you use some common sense, there would be no danger and you should have a marvelous time. Google Loire bike path and see if you can find it. Eventually it will go all the way to the Atlantic.

I've strongly recommended to our daughters that they take it; it seems a wonderful trip. The Loire is a marvelous area, very gentle and friendly in additoin to being incredibly beautiful.

Go, enjoy and have a wonderful trip. If you can't find the bike path info, post again and I'll see if I can find it for you.

Cycling in Loire Valley

We spent some weeks of a summer gliding in the Loire. My husband and his friend landed at a chateau (not one of the main ones). I had to drive quite a way from the airport to find them. (I had to take the trailer to collect the aircraft).
We found our two pilots deeply ensconced in typical French hospitality, nothing short of a banquet!!! By the time we had sampled and tasted amazing wines and Belgian beer (he had his own private collection of beers as well as wines he had made!!) and eaten home made food to die for, we eventually got home very late in the nite. This family didn't know us from a bar of soap. We will never forget their welcome and the hours we had together. I never at any moment felt unsafe in this area. Of course normal precautions including extra care at night, need to be observed. Just like anywhere.
Have fun!! I'm envious that you are going there :-))
