Hi there,
I live and work in Hurghada and absolutely love El Gouna. A lot of other ex pats think it is a bit 'stepford wives', but it is clean, good places to eat, beautiful marina with different things to do. One thing though, don't expect to be able to buy a lot of things unless you have a very full purse. The shops are really expensive.
When are you planning on visiting?

Well I am not so sure about swimming. I never venture back into the water until at least March, but then I am accustomed to 29 - 32 degree water now. Yes you will still be able to get a tan. Compared to Europe, the weather will be pleasant.

I have a friend in Cairo who has property in El Gouna which he goes to himself regularly as he adores it.

As for the water... hmmm... january weather is not the best for swimming I don't think.

I would only go in the water once the Khamsin is out the way!!! (50 days of wind
