| Hua Hin | BKK airport to Hua Hin Posted: Fri January 11, 2008 02:25 AM UTC
My partner and I are going to Hua Hin in early Feb 08 and was just wondering about the transport to HH from BKK airport. I have checked the internet and you can book a car a driver to send you there for about B3300 one way (cheapest so far). Would it be cheaper to just arrive at the airport and get a driver from there or to pre- book it via internet. Thanks for any advice. We're not keen on trains or buses.

i have got private transfers three times to hua hin its the way to go. the driver will meet you in a merc or volvo. if you book direct from airport the bangkok taxis stink of ciggs and the suspension is like your butt is touching the rd. a/con does not work or they switch it off to save on econymy. pay the money its worth the extra.its a 2 i/2 hour drive. before leaving a/port get a couple of drinks for your selves and driver if you are hungry go to burger king in a/port, again treat driver. david leat is the contact ask him for quote. give him times of pick up. www.golfofsiam.com enjoy hua hin Grumphy

Yup, book a car from your hotel. Generally, cars from the Airport could be a hit and miss and some might have trouble finding their way to the hotel and not to mention speeding as they might rush around to fit in a few jobs in a day, airport cars can be expensive. So it's better to book with your hotel in Hua Hin to send you a car. The hotel sent us a Camry which was comfortable with a courteous driver that took the initiative to stop along the way for toilet stops and coffee/lunch. It is a 3-4 hour ride one way, so I think B3000-3300 is a fair price with rising fuel costs (petrol is expensive in Thailand). Hua Hin is a nice town...enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially the one about the uncomfortable, smelly and hot rides on the airport taxis. Actually I was thinking of flying into BKK then straight to HH. I will check out the gulfofsiam site too. I found one on the internet, where a round trip would cost only Bhat4200 on a Volvo.

* Not all taxi cabs are smelly and that uncomfortable. Most of them are Toyota, Nissan or Honda 4 door sedans. A meter taxi from the taxi sign up desk will be cheaper than something you get way ahead of time. Unless you are the type that would feel the "pea" under the big stack of mattresses a normal taxi will do. There are many taxi cabs that are almost brand new too! Up to you! Don't blow Bangkok off, it is the capitol city and you should spend a few days there. My preference is to spend a few days in Bangkok to get used to the heat (you can get a tan in Bangkok too) and get used to the time changes. From the city you have several means of transport to HH. Even transportation procured from a local travel agent would be cheaper than directly from the airport. Up to you!

I am from Kuala Lumpur so I don't need to adjust to the time nor climate nor need a tan and I've been to BKK many times already, and am looking for a different kind of holiday. There really is no need for me to do the BKK thing. "To each his/her own" I have taken the cabs in BKK on numerous occasions and while most of them are good, I actually had the experience of no air-cond and pain in the arse rides. My partner and I would prefer to have somebody wait for a pick up and found one that would cost only THB2200 one way and they're reliable as a friend in BKK has used them before.

Going to Bangkok after Hua Hin can be a shock to the system, because HH is a peaceful town and Bangkok is quite chaotic. I actually did that in my last trip, and really....it wasn't fun. It made us miss the seaside even more.
