| Novosibirsk | Anyone going to Novosibirsk for the big event on August 1, 2008? Posted: Thu January 10, 2008 08:47 PM UTC
There will be a pretty unique event in Novosibirsk on August 1, 2008. It won't be repeated very soon.
so hurry up and make sure your Russian visa, hotel reservation and CITY-STAR ticket is ready for action. http://deals.virtualtourist.com/viewDeal-19817-584 That may change our travel plans for this Summer. |

Sure, if it would be just my wife and me. But with 3 kids? :-O
Besides, no one told us we have to get roots and stuck there for more than a day. LOL But since the price going to Novosibirsk or any other place is for "railpass" (=CST ticket owners) the same, Novosibirsk is the most convenient place to reach using that. No need even to book a hotel: arrive in the morning, set up the 1000mm Rubin lens and the tripod, make sure the CF card has enough space than continue towards Lake Baikal in the evening. Sample: use the train number 44 departing Moscow 0:35 (better: go earlier to Yaroslavl, than Kostroma, train number 44 departs Kostroma at 7:32), arrive Novosibirsk at 7:16 (Moscow time). Continue with train number 10, departing Novosibirsk at 22:01 Moscow time, arrive Irkutsk at 04:16 (Moscow time). So one can see some of the "Golden Ring", see the Eclipse, always arrive/depart in convenient hours.

I've been thinking of heading out to that myself in the summer, but I hear the best place to see it would be a bit more North-west of Novosibirsk. Maybe people can offer their reccomendations for nice spots here in this thread.

Me and ~5 of my friends are going there from Riga, Latvia by UAZs through Kazakhstan. That will be very hard trip, but we are looking forward to it. Maybe someone can advice on cheap (so that we can get a shower after the long way) accommodation there (under $40/pers)?
