| Helsinki | How to get to Itäkeskus Shoping Mall Posted: Wed January 9, 2008 01:58 PM UTC
Hello,
I am going to Helsinki this Saturday by ferry from Tallinn. Can anyone suggest how do I get from harbour to Itäkeskus, rumoured to be the biggest shopping mall in Skandinavia. |

Take a subway (metro) to Itäkeskus (it is also the name of the metro station)!

I've been to many shopping malls claiming they are the biggest in Scandinavia. I doubt that Itäkeskus is the biggest though, it's just not big enough.
Some good shopping though, just don't expect too much. It's "just" a shopping centre. Sabs PS: I googled the biggest shopping centre because I was curious. Apparently the biggest seems to be in Copenhagen these days? There were quite a few results for Itäkeskus as well so maybe it is the biggest still? What about the one in Göteborg? ;) Does anybody know?

Kiitos Pupulainen,
I am coming with Nordic Jet Line to Kanavaterminaali. Can I walk to the nearest Metro station or should I take bus?

The weather is really warm and I am used to walk a lot.
I don't know Helsinki at all but I got a map. I don't see any park there. If I take Kanavakatu first, then reach the cathedral and take Fabianinkatu up to Kaisaniemenkatu. Is that ok?

If it's your first visit to Helsinki, I recommend you to buy a one day ticket (6 euro as Pupulainen mentioned) so you can enjoy the convenient Helsinki city transport. You can buy it from Tourist Information Centre Pohjoisesplanadi 19, near the harbour, where you can also get a free city transport map. You can take tram 3T in front of the Info Centre or several tram lines just couple of hundred meters away near Senaatintori to Central Railway Station and catch a Metro train to Itakeskus. Metro trains depart every 5 minutes and the ride to Itakeskus takes 15 minutes. For further information about Helsinki city transport, check my Helsinki pages or Helsinki Kaupunki Liikenne's homepage http://www.hel.fi/wps/portal/HKL_en/?WCM_GLOBAL_CO

Thanks to everybody for your advices.
I've been to Itäkeskus and it wasn't big indeed. Then I went to the central shopping area - Stockmann, Sokos, etc. I had really nice time in Helsinki.
