| San Diego | July 4 Posted: Tue January 8, 2008 01:49 PM UTC
We plan to visit S.D. in July and are wondering if the fourth is a good time to visit. Are July 4th and the fireworks family friendly? Is public transport a good way to go from the bay back to hotel (thinking of Old Town area)? Thanks!

The Fourth of July is a good time to visit, if you will consider that it is the height of the tourist season and includes all that that implies, especially crowds and higher prices for hotels.
The fireworks, which is the "cap-off" to this day of celebration, are family friendly. In fact while viewing the fireworks you will be amongst more resident families than tourist families. On the Fourth of July, all public transportation is on "Holiday" schedule and you might take a look at their website to get an idea of the time frame. http://www.sdcommute.com/ The San Diego Trolley would be most useful while traveling from the Harbor area to Old Town as there is a station about a block from the Harbor, off Broadway and an Old Town station a few blocks from most of the hotels in Old Town.
