Livorno Another port question
Posted: Mon January 7, 2008 07:59 PM UTC
Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is a redundant question, but I couldn't find any information elsewhere.

I'll be arriving by cruise ship to Livorno in April and the cruise agent said that we will be docking at Piazzale Rosciano #6 in Livorno. I'm not sure if this is the right spelling. I've looked on Google maps but don't see anything.

Can someone tell me where this is and how do I get from the train station to this dock area?

Thank you in advance.

I am guessing that you mean "Scali Rosciano", which is on one of the waterways in town. You can see this on a map by going to www.viamichelin.com .

It's about a 2.5 kilometer walk (40 minutes) to Livorno Centrale from this location (if we have the right one); however, most of the way, you are going down one of the main streets in town, so there are likely to be buses not too far away that will run you straight to the train station...

Scali Rosciano 6/7 is the address of the port authority: Autorità Portuale di Livorno. It is not the address of the dock, and you would normally arrive at the cruise terminal (stazione marittima, terminal crociere). The cruise lines run shuttles into the centre because you aren't allowed to wander around the bonded area; but there are also local buses, see http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-246824-1-1-Travel-1-149243-Livorno-discussion.html. You can find a map on here, showing the cruise terminal as no. 12 on Calata Punto Franco: http://www.portauthority.li.it/sitohtml/cruise.htm.
Shuttle buses go from Calata Punto Franco to Piazzale dei Marmi, see link on here:

"Scali Rosciano 6/7 is the address of the port authority: Autorità Portuale di Livorno. "

That explains the slightly odd location up a side canal ;-)
