Yosemite National Park Accomodation in Yosemite NP- July 2008
Posted: Mon January 7, 2008 07:10 AM UTC
Hi..I finally got my dates fixed and looked up for accomodation in and around Yosemite National Park for the month of July..and this is what came up:

Comfort Inn Yosemite Area
Yosemite View Lodge
Days Inn Oakhurst Yosemite
Best Western Yosemite Gateway Inn
Shilo Inn Oakhurst
Cedar lodge
Hounds Tooth Inn Bed and Breakfast
Oakhurst lodge

Can anyone tell me the best place to stay in..not too keen on camping outdoors and plan to stay for a night. We have a car so we can drive down to the National Park if its just a few mins away.

How abt the Blackberry Inn and the other B&B places? Are they worth it?

Thankyou so much!

The best way to enter Yosemite, in my opinion, is coming in from Oakhurst on hwy 41 and seeing the view of the valley from the tunnel. but that is the long way in July from Lake Tahoe. The shortest distance from Lake Tahoe is to take US 395 south to the Mono Lake/ Lee Vining area and go right on CA120. This takes you on the Tioga Pass Road, not passable in winter, straight into the Yosemite Valley. Oakhurst is on the other side of Yosemite. Oakhurst is where my wife and I stayed on one visit to Yosemite. The Shilo Inn Oakhurst as well as Apple Tree Inn B&B Fish Camp are both good locations. These hotel tips are on my Oakhurst and Fish Camp pages under accommodations tips with websites. There are also a couple of hotels in the park. Check with the National Parks website: http://www.nps.gov/yose/

In answer to your two questions

1) The post above is correct, enter the park from Lee Vining Mono Lake. The Tioga Pass and the drive over the sierra nevadas is wonderful.

2) We stayed in the Cedar Lodge last summer and had a good stay. Its only just outside yosemite valley and so if you have entered the park via the Tioga Pass its in a great position for the attractions in the valley.

The view mentioned above Tunnel view is something you must see and is easily accessibile from the Cedar Lodge.

We stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge and found it very nice--clean and reasonable, and we loved the Merced River running right outside our room! Hotels inside the Prk like the Ahwanee are extremely expensive.

Drive South from Lake Tahoe on Hwy.395,visit Bodie State Park, stop at Mono Lake, eat lunch at The Whoa Nellie Cafe in Lee Vining, book a cabin at The Tioga Pass Resort and have dinner there ,drive thru Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley, book a Yosemite Lodge room, take the shuttle bus to Glacier Point. If you can not get a room in the Valley stay at Cedar Lodge.Have a great trip !
