| Sevilla | Ideas for visiting Seville and rounding area. Posted: Sun January 6, 2008 03:21 PM UTC
Halo everyone
I am thinking of going to Seville area for 9-10 days from 24th February before going to Madrid to watch Real Madrid V Roma in March 6th. I probably will watch Seville or Real Betis in action while I am there. Any tips about the area ie which town / sight is worth seeing. I am thinking about Marbella, Seville and Cadiz and possibly Huelva to watch Recreativo V Real Madrid (Might be impossible to get ticket as it is small stadium) Remember I am traveling alone (35 years old). I like to watch football, sports, flamingo, live music (rock/jazz), eating out (Not tourist rubbish food), and visiting the beach, park and historical buildings and museum (Not too much art gallery) I will be traveling by metro, train and feet. I been to Madrid 3 times, Rome, Barcelona, and Milan once. |

See my pages for great hotel in SEvilla.
The guys from hotel knows all the best places and they save us from the touristy crap. Those guys are like encyclopedia for real TRAVELERS. Also I know that the prices posted on the internet are much higher than the one we paid when we simply walked down the street and knocked to the hotel door. You must go to CASA MANOLO for diner ( see my page) Anyway.....all local joints on the other side of the river are good. There is also bar ATUN close to Hotel Europa...also good... hope that helps

Huelva can be reached easy enough by the train or bus. (From the Plaza de Armas bus station) Have you read MORBO about Spanish football. You must know that the Rio Tinto mining company that bought land rights from Spain in the 19th century basically made Huelva their home base and there is a pier and British Victorian houses in the town. Interesting history. And Rio Tinto people started the game in Spain ! They also invented the beach resort in Spain and if you get over the river to Punta Umbria there is a rebuilt Victorian beach house with exhibits from those days. http://www.casadelosingleses.com/
The train station in Huelva was built at the time that the railway for the mines was built, by Brits or was it Scots. Well all the same. Would be certainly worth getting down to Huelva to explore. Across the river there is La Rábida where Columbus stayed between 1491-92 waiting for financial backing from the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, for his voyage to the New World.

Sevilla Sevilla Sevilla!
Sorry, I can't recommend that city enough, it's one of my favorite places in the world! For flamenco, I recommend Casa de la Memoria, Casa Carmen, and La Carboneria (though this one is a bar so it's much more crowded and noisy than the other two venues). There are no beaches in Seville since it's not on the coast, but there are a lot of beautiful parks. As for historical buildings, the Cathedral and Giralda are definite must-sees, and there are all sorts of beautiful churches and other historic buildings in town. There are also museums, including one specifically for bullfighting (it's in the bullring) and another for flamenco dance. There are lots of good restaurants and tapa bars in Seville, especially in the Barrio Santa Cruz, along Calle Betis, and on the Alameda de Hercules. There is no metro in Seville yet, but there are busses in town. Though walking is the best way to explore the city in my opinion. Be careful in the Barrio Santa Cruz though, it's the historic district and has a lot of winding streets like a maze, and since there are a lot of tourists there, there are also a lot of thieves. If you want more details on all these things, check out my Sevilla page.

Sevilla is beautiful city to visit. Bull fighting museum, Real Betis, the Alcazar palace and Catherdal is worth a look. I love the city, beautiful women and weather.
The city is fanstatic to walk round and if you can hire a bike it is better.
