Belfast A Day in Belfast
Posted: Sun January 6, 2008 12:46 PM UTC
4 of us are going to be spending a day in Belfast on Saturday 12th January. I can see there is loads to see and do, and a day will not be long enough. We arrive at around 9am and our flight leaves George Best Airport at around 10pm.

Please can anybody tell me where's best to stop for lunch and a pint or 2 of Guiness, and anything else which must not be missed on our day out?

Cheers

Hi Chris,

Greetings from a very chilly Belfast!
So do wrap up warm.

www.gotobelfast.com is a good website to find out all that is going on.

Did you know we have a big wheel at the moment in Belfast (Locals are calling it - the Belfast Aye!
that's because we are just so funny!) Why don't you go online and book some tickets for you and your friends to avoid the queue. It is located right outside the City Hall.

You will also come across a nice big sculpture also currently being called (Nulua with the Hula) you see we can't help ourselves. Shopping is fun in Belfast, with all the stores you would know and of course Primark and TK Maxx also Dunnes Stores having a big draw, if you don't have them locally. You will still pick up some sale bargains.

As for drinks the Crown Bar is always recommended opposite the Europa Hotel. Or you could try The Cloth Ear at the Merchant Hotel. There are plenty or places also in the Odyssey Arena complex quite handy to the airport, so if you found yourselves there, it would only be a quick taxi ride back to the George Best.

It is hard to know, just because it really depends on what you fancy, but when you come out at the arrivals in the airport there are lots of brilliant guides GO, FATE, etc. ( I know because I went to pick someone up the other day and read them all) Tourist information is in the main street Royal Avenue just opposite the City Hall when you get into town. That is the place to head City Centre if it is shopping you fancy.

Have a great time in the City.

Hi

the first time i visited Belfast was in 1984, the last time was in 1987. I imagine it has changed a lot since then. But even back then the Crown was the place to go for lunch and a pint of Guiness. Try a pint of the Smithwicks if they still make it. There is so much to see there-the place has a lot of history attached to it. The Titanic was built in Belfast.

Anyways, enjoy your day out.

kind regards

michael ryan

There are regular bus tours that run from the city centre, the one I went on had a great tour guide who had plenty of anecdotes about the area and people. For a more personal tour you could try a black cab.
