Is there a train station in Lausanne? I am planning to visit friends of the family in autumn of this year and want to know if I can take a train there, or have to fly to Geneva. If anyone has taken a train from Italy (possibley Rome) to Lausanne or Geneva, how much does it cost?

Yes, there's a train station! Or you can fly into Geneva and take the train from there.

The silly Italian "global price" tariff makes it difficult to tell the exact price, I get prices somewhere between 107.10 and 82.50 Euros depending on the train.

I think given the scenery flying would be not just more expensive but also missing scenery is pity. Besides, why not reduce the carbon footprint?

Is the Pope Catholic :-)
I doubt you'll find a major town in Switzerland that has no train station. Lausanne has a big railway station, with several trains per hour to all major places in Switzerland. There are direct trains from some places in Italy to Lausanne, and to Geneva. See www.sbb.ch for the timetables.

If you are travelling from Rome, you could also check Easy Jet, they have direct flights to Geneva. Then it's a 30 minute train ride to Lausanne...
