| Palma de Mallorca | where to stay with a 5yr old in mallorca ??? Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 07:51 PM UTC
hello
we are FAMILY OF 3 , looking to come to mallorca on july -- but where to stay ?, we have been to cala d'or, which we liked , but its a bit too far for independant travel - taxis fares etc . where is good for a young family - away from mad nightlife etc , and not for the mega rich ? also could you reccomend good apartments - never again will i travel on a package deal . thank you for your help - if you know of some good apartments please let me know . many thanks Elaine |

There are lots of wonderful places to stay away from package holiday Mallorca.
But where will you be coming from ? Will you be hiring a car? If not how will you get around? Presumably you will be booking your flights separately and will then need transport to get to whatever accommodation you have booked? Public transport on the island is quite good - as long as your flight arrives at a reasonable hour. One of the places that might suit a young family is Puerto de Pollensa where there are lots of nice apartments. Google - Apartments Puerto Pollensa and see what you can find. You will need to book directly with the owner in many cases so can ask about transport from the airport. We once rented a house near there and the ownere met us at the airport - all part of the deal!

Hello..as ranger49 posted, Pollensa could be a good pick, nice beach, quiet town and beatifull places to visit. Nearby U can also check out Alcudia, there are several places to stay there, small hotels and apartahotels. If U prefer to stroll in the main city, Palma, then maybe your choice should be Arenal, Can Pastilla or Platga de Palma. All this places are near palma, communicated with bus number 15 with about 10min frecuency. If U look for visiting more places then my advice is to rent a car for some days in order to visit some other places outside the main towns. Check out my Mallorca travel pages for more info and pics...good luck!

I would definitely recommend Puerto Pollensa, you will find lots of independent accomodation on www.puertopollensa.com, i would suggest booking something in the central, marina area; Pinaret, or the pine walk area (although this is the most expensive part). The local bus service is good and you can easily get to the Puerto Alcudia area for a day, this a more lively area than Puerto Pollensa. It is also worth checking out the old town of Alcudia for the market on Sunday and Tuesday, the old town of Pollensa and a boat trip to the beach at Formentor. Car hire is relatively cheap in Mallorca so could be a good idea to book a car from the airport.Plenty of day trips by coach available too, such as with No Frills Tours, info at Tourist Office near bus stop on seafront.
