We will be staying at the Samudra Hotel in Februay. Although we have been to Kerala several times we have always stayed on Lighthouse Beach, and wondered what the beaches near the Samudra Hotel are like and are there places to eat. Also is it possible to walk from the hotel to Eve's and Lighthouse beaches in the daytime.

Although I havent been to Kerala or even stayed at this hotel I am planning to go this year and have been researching this hotel. Apparently its a five minute walk from Lighthouse beach but the Samudra beach isnt wonderful.

I also read yesterday that the monsoon wasnt knind to Lighthouse beach - not sure what to maKE OF IT ALL.

We were last on Lighthouse Beach March 07. The last week we had some really high tides which messed up the beach a bit - the usually white sand became a bit black in places, but that really didn't effect our enjoyment of the beach. The sea is usually has quite high waves, but don't worry there are very good lifeguards on the beach in case anyone gets into bother. It's really warm and as I don't like the high waves I cool off in the shallows.

Sure you'll have a great time, Lighthouse Beach has loads of great restaurants which are really cheap, and lots going on - great if you enjoy a bit a people watching!

Forgot to say, we visited the Samudra and had a look around two years ago - we went the long way round in taxi and didn't really know whether we could get through to Lighthouse Beach on foot. Think the Samudra is on Ashok Beach, and Samudra Beach is the next beach along. The Hotel is quite nice with lovely grounds and we wanted to stay there last year but couldn't find it in any of the UK brochures.

Hiya, We haven't been to Kovalam for about 5 years but we are there at the Uday Samudra from feb 1st for 2 weeks this year. Prob see you there.
