We are a family scattered from CA to NY to MD. What suggestions would you have for flights from NYC to Black Hills area? Or from LA to Rapid City? It seems Minneapolis is a good connector for the eastern families. Or is there a better connector location? Some families could fly part way and then rent a car.
Has anyone had experience with this?

United through Denver is an option, more so for your family on the west coast.
But you are correct that Minneapolis will give you the most viable options. One of Northwest Airlines' hubs is Minneapolis. From MSP, they have codeshare flights with the regional links, networking all of the central midwest.
