Kiruna Icehotel tour? Snowmobile?
Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 08:05 AM UTC
Hi all,

I just checked the price for the icehotel tour, and it's 295kr for a 30 minutes tour. Can someone tell me that is it worth going?

I have posted a quetion about snowmobile in Kiruna, I still cannot find any information about renting snowmobile for a day without joining any tours. Any of you know if there is snowmobile rental up there?

Also anywhere for skiing in Kiruna? We are all beginners, so just want to have a taste on skiing that's all, no need to be downhill. And we wonder about hiring the gears? Is it easy to find a place who do that?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,
I have not yet been to the Icehotel so I can not tell you if its worth 295 SEK, sounds expensive but its probably and experience. There is an Icebar in Stockholm which also is very expensive but even for me that lives here in Stockholm that was an experience not to be missed.

Snowmobiles can be rented here,

http://www.kirunabiluthyrning.com/ (Avis)
http://www.jukkas.se/enguthyrning.html
http://www.renthere.se/

Some of the sites are in Swedish only, just klick "Kontakt" and you will see their e-mail address and phone number.

The prices seems to be 1300-1800 SEK/Day for the basic deal.

Unless you are very used to the snow and mountains and have all the equipment and clothes needed for surving in the cold I would strongly suggest that you join a guided tour. Also there are restrictions how and where you can drive the snowmobile.

If you never have been driving snowmobiles before it is probably a good idea to go with a guide. It is alot of snow in Kiruna and it is easy to get stuck even for someone who are used to drive.
You van probably just visit some kind of touristinformation when you get there and then they can tell you where to rent skiis and tell you more about snowmobiles.
