Acoma Pueblo Digital camera use at Acoma Sky City
Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 04:40 AM UTC
Almost all digital cameras have some video capability. Even cameras which are generally used only for still shots. Does this mean that only film cameras can be used and that all other cameras are prohibited on Acoma Sky City?

Good question. The $12 visitors fee and $10 still camera permit make Sky City one of the most expensive places to visit in New Mexico. I guess you could call their 800-747-0181 number and find out.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were that strict. We were simply driving on the small roads on the way up to Acoma ie nowhere near anything of 'interest' and were followed and stopped by local police and asked to leave when we stopped to take a photo of the sunset over the interstate!! They were so rude that we decided not to go to Acoma the following day as we had planned.

Wow - I'm curious too! We're planning to visit in Sept. and yes, ours is a digital model that can take short movies - although I'm technologically impaired don't use that function. As this question was posted awhile ago, I'm wondering if you found an answer?

One more question - if little still-shot/short video digital cameras (which is the majority of them these days) really are a no-no, has anyone used a disposable digital here with decent results? It may be my only option and ouch, between entry fees for the two of us, a still camera permit and cost of a throw-away camera...!!!!! Still, It's one of those places that probably begs for a capture of deep orange adobe against a deep blue sky!
