Balboa Park; The Zoo; Harbour Cruise ; Sea World; Old Town, Coronado Hotel; Maritime Museum; Gaslight Area. Lots of Tips on VT San Diego pages.
Sorry can't help with accommodation as I stayed with relatives but you will find Hotel Tips on VT too. Have a great time and enjoy San Diego and the Cruise.

Hi Looo,

You might be interested in the Holiday Inn on Harbor Drive. It is located across the street from the cruise ship terminal and the price of a room should be within the range you are seeking. You can read more about it on my San Diego page in the Accommodation Tips. There is another place a few blocks north, called the Paradise Inn and Suites. It's less expensive per night and sometimes offers great deals.

As for things to do or see with your mother, I think it would depend upon her interests, energy level and walking abilities. The "Old Town Trolley Tours" bus has a pick-up point just across the street from the Holiday Inn on Harbor Drive and it might be a good idea to invest a day on that. It offers on and off privledges and hits about seven or nine of the most popular places in the area for tourists. Also, you can read more about this on my SD page in the Transportation Tips section.

You didn't mention if you'd be renting a car or relying on public transportation. The San Diego Trolley (different from The Old Town Trolley Tours) is part of the public transportation and has a station just across the street from the Santa Fe Depot, which is located a few blocks behind that Holiday Inn I spoke of.

If you give some idea of what types of things you, your siblings and mother like to see and do, I could give more specific suggestions.

Hope this helps,
Linda
