Bucharest URGENT HELP NEEDED
Posted: Thu January 3, 2008 05:24 PM UTC
My friend and her friends have been left stranded in Bucharest by their airline who have cancelled their flight home due to snow (going from the other airport, not Henri Coanda). They can't get a flight home with their booked airline till next Tuesday. Home is Manchester, England.

Any suggestions folks?

Am on the Henri Coanda Airport website and have checked BA, KLM, Lufthansa and Air France. BA looks like they can get them home tomorrow but for £250 each! Looking for alternative suggestions.

What about Ryanair and Easyjet? Maybe not from Bucharest, but from somewhere else in the country.

Bucharest is, apparently, the only international airport in the country. Looks like she's going to have to fork out big style or stay there.

No, there are other international airports besides Bucharest: Timisoara (this is the second largest after Bucharest Otopeni, I think), Cluj, Sibiu, Targu Mures, Bacau, Iasi.

I've just text her and told her to keep an eye on this thread. VTers are the BEST people in the world.

There's a possibility of a train leaving tonight and will get them into Manchester Saturday lunchtime but I can't find the fare!!! Then again, I found it on a German website rather than Hungarian so who knows if I messed it up - I certainly did with the BA flight - I'd put Budapest rather than Bucharest!!!

Yeah, there seems to be a train to Budapest leaving at midnight from Bucharest North station; it gets to Budapest tomorrow afternoon, which would theoretically leave enough time to fly straight to Manchester with Jet2 (flies out of Budapest at 6.30 PM, costs 242 euros).

Check www.wizzair.com for Bucharest (Banesa airport) to anywhere in Germany. We flew that from Dortmund. From Germany there are more option for the UK from Cologne or Dusseldorf.

www.tarom.ro fly to Heathrow but won't give me a price online less than 72 hours ahead. Might be worth checking locally if they can get to an office. About 213GBP one-way though (I think).

Many thanks fellow VTers. My friend and her party will be returning via Prague tomorrow - for a whopping £232 quid each - luckily her insurance should cover it.

It was Wizz Air that cancelled her flight today.

She'll be home tomorrow and that's all that matters to her and her friends.

OK, I can help them to go till Netherlands or Belgium relatively cheap.

They should buy the train ticket "Tariful Sparpreis Germania".

The price from Romanian border till Aachen Sued(GR) via Salzburg will be:

Euro 157 for 1 person
Euro 235.5 Euro for 2 persons
Euro 314 Euro for 3 persons
Euro 392.5 Euro for 4 persons
Euro 471 Euro for 5 persons

Buy the Bucuresti-Arad-Curtici domestic train ticket in addition.

With that train ticket they can reach Aachen Sued (Gr). This is exactly how they should ask, Aachen Sued (Gr). 21.80 Euro / person will take them from Aachen Sued (Gr) till Bruxelles.

Well, the rest is up to them (Eurotunnel, cheapest flight, ferry)
