Delhi Reasonable Hotel in Delhi close to New Dehli Train Station
Posted: Thu January 3, 2008 11:13 AM UTC
After our experiences in Mumbai and Calcutta, we are trying to find a reasonable hotel close to the train station. We arrive late at night in a few weeks and plan to stay for two nights on the way to Shimla and a couple on the way back.

We have looked at reviews of the Ajanta and Grand Godwin Hotel amongst others. I feel like we are going around in circles. We want somewhere that is clean and reasonably comfortable. Our budget for Delhi is 60$.

Please can someone help. Thanks

Hi!

It depends upon your definition of 'reasonable'! I stayed at the Smyle Inn (http://www.smyleinn.com/) last year. It is a 5 minute walk to the station and I found it very reasonable, clean, comfortable and friendly, if basic. You can book online too. Have a good trip!

Strange thing, I was also going to recommend The Smyle Inn but Asha has beaten me to it ;-)
I aren’t sure if you mean that your budget is $60 for the entire stay in Delhi or per person or per person per night – if it is the latter then you will have Plenty of change if you do chose to stay at The Smyle Inn.
I see that you are also heading for Shimla, I also did the same last year
You might want to take a look at my India page for some ideas on where to stay, eat and what to see, as well as some tips on train travel.
Hope that helps – but if you need more info then please feel free to drop me a line

Thanks for your help. Our budget is normally 20$ a day between the two of us, but after previous experiences we were willing to pay more to get a clean room that we were happy to sleep in.

Thanks again.

I was just in Delhi and stayed at the Grand Godwin hotel in Ram Nagar neighborhood, very close to the train station. The ground floor room was very noisy, so try to get one on a higher floor. The room was Rs1350 per night and included a big buffet breakfast, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. http://www.godwinhotels.com/ We also had travel arrangements made at their travel desk.

Have fun.
