Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Santiago Best Airport Hotel
Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 09:04 PM UTC
Any suggestions/comments on what I gather are the 2 hotels closest to the airport. One is the Holiday Inn Airport hotel and the other is the Diego de Almargro Aeropuerto. Holiday is $149 and Diego is $113, but it costs $10 for the shuttle to Diego...so it's a wash. Has anyone stayed at either hotel...or have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hands down the Holiday Inn. You walk across an airport service road and you're there. The Diego de Almagro has been selling its rooms on location for years without updating it or making much of an effort in any department. Even if they were side by side, I'd pick the Holiday Inn.

There really is nothing to see or do at either "airport hotel" location and a 20 minute taxi or shuttle ride puts you in the prime area to see Santiago. I would recommend staying at a hotel in town if you have the hours to see the sights and enjoy a decent restaurant or cafe.

We stayed at the Diego Almargro in October 2006 and found it very pleasant and nice. During our stay in Chile, we stayed there several nights, always in between connections flights from the north to the south of the country and on our way back to Buenos Aires.
The shuttle we took several times was free of charge, but you don't want to take the taxi's that are waiting for you at the exit - there's a counter where a free shuttle was organized.... It might ofcourse have changed in the last two years...

We'll be probably back again later this year !
