| Delhi | 2 weeks based in Delhi : February Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 05:39 PM UTC
Hi all
I will be with my wife in Delhi for 2 weeks in February, I want to travel around, first thoughts are 2 days in Delhi then to Agra, Varanasi etc. I would like advice on where else to go, how to get thier and where to stay please? We are in our 40's not backpackers but also not luxury travellers (we aint that well off, £30-40 a night for a hotel is where we normally fit in!), dont mind getting an odd flight / train but not too many buses though (my wife back is not as sound as it used to be)! Want to experience as much of the culture, sights, flavours etc without going too crazy!! Thankyou Steve |

In two weeks of stay in India, you can visit main cities of Rajasthan namely Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Then you may go to Agra and Varanasi.
You depart Delhi for Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur Jaisalmer and back to Delhi. You can travel all these destinations by train or flights. Feb is the end of the season to visit Rajasthan.

Check out The Tourist Rest House in Agra (very good value, honest and helpful people, highly recommended) and The Yatri Guest House in Delhi. Both might suit your needs. (In the case of the Yatri Guest House, the reality doesn't sparkle quite like the web site pics., but does it ever?) I found train travel enjoyable and easy to book online. See www.seat61.com for all you need to know about the trains. Good Luck and Happy Travels.

Hi
my wife and I just came back from india last week, we have been there 15 days but our original plan was 3 weeks to stay, unfortunately because of lots of bad experience over there we came back earlier and the most reason were dirtiness’ and poorness. My only advice is be very careful of any busy and crowded places .what we noticed was 1.thifes ,do not put your money in unsafe place hide in several places in your body not in your wallet or hand bag believe me is very safe. is better to make a hiding pocket inside your pance.2.. never travel with 'took took'(local taxi)or subway there are lots of thefts waiting for tourists. just travel with privet driver witch you can arrange them in same hotel you will stay we did the same and was very safe and even good price compare with renting car. We booked a hotel in newdelhi called Grand park Inn in Karol bagh the hotel is good and clean 3 stars but good price about 50 $USD per night but the around the hotel is so busy and not so clean like all the other hotel in newdelhi ,anyway they have airport pickup service $25 charge and takes 35 min drive to hotel.the good thing about this hotel is the manager of the hotel named ( Madan )is very kind and fare person and very good organizer. after 2 nights staying there we asked him for a tour and he booked a trip in all north region of india 7 nights accommodation including 4 hotels free breakfast in 4 cities like Agra ,poushkar ,adapour.and rajestan region with a privet driver ,brand new car and the best part is where ever you like you can stop car and enjoy the journey and again in every cities there is a local guide waiting for you to show the city you can ask them for elephant or camel riding too anyway all this trip will cost you 1500 $USD excluding riding and all visiting places ticket like museum etc..oh the other things that you have to be careful is those guiders will take you to some jewelry shops to visit they pay him commotions if you buy anything and whatever you can ask for bargain like more than have of the actual prize and do not show your inters on the things you buying ,and do not eat ice or drink tab water or local restaurant to be honest in 15 days we had just 3 times meal and that was a pizzeria in a big mall in new delhi called papa john and was good and hygienic and the rest we had just toast and some nutella witch we brought with us. Oh again do not visit goa in south of india because the local fundamentalists threatened all the tourists if they visit this city. I hope I gave you a good vision of traveling to India. That wasn’t our vision .Have a nice and safe trip.

hi, me and my husband spent similiar time in india in 2005. we were in a tour group, intrepid travel, and i highly recommend this group to you. www.intrepidtravel.com this is not a typical tour bus tour group. small group with a local guide, and uses local transportations eg bus, trains, jeep and stays at small hotels.
http://www.intrepidtravel.com/search/trips as other travelers suggest, there is a lot of tourist traps and scams in india. when we were on our own in delhi, 3 different taxi drivers/rickshaw drivers took us to the same "tourist center" in 1 day as we reqeuested to be driven to a site. even with Metro/underground, different people would be charged differently. we were so fed up after these encounters and decided to just walk to the site!!! given the time you have, 2 weeks, i believe that a small tour group would help you to take the hassle and hurdle out and make your stay in india more enjoyable. the great thing with that tour group is that they took us to small villages and schools. it maximizes my experience in india as a foreigner b/c the tour took care of all the transportations and accommendation bookings.
