Name of Train Station Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 04:09 PM UTC
Hi
I am trying to check information of trains from Cologne to Fussen using the DB website. When I enter "Fussen" as the destination, it prompted that "Fussen" yield several possibilities.
Would appreciate help as to what should I pick out of the whole list of possibilities that appear. Is "Fussen Bahnhof" the right one?
Help will be much appreciated.

Either "Fuessen" or "Füssen", but not "Fussen".

Just a note to say that if you were planning to buy tickets in advance don't bother - tickets are pretty much the same price regardless of when you buy them, and if your not locked into when you have to travel its usually better to be able to be flexible!

Kathrin, You'll have to forgive us, but I don't believe that English language keyboards have a key for the umlaut. I'm not sure it would help even if we switched the text language. This will give me something to research later, lol. Gary

I don't think we have keys for symbols for the Euro, or the British Pound either. Gary

They are in your computer. Have a look at this site.

I have learned that you must use the number keys on an extended keyboard not the main keyboard

Re: Name of Train Station Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 06:00 PM UTC
If umlauts are not available they are rewritten as
ü -> ue
ö -> oe
ä -> ae
also
ß -> ss
Thus use "Fuessen" with the DB timetable.
Same applies e.g. also for internet addresses. The official homepages are e.g.
http://www.fuessen.de
http://www.koeln.de (Cologne/Köln)
http://www.muenchen.de (Munich/München)
Just omitting the umlauts is not correct and may even lead with timetables etc. to wrong results.
Bahnhof (Bf) = railway station
Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) = main railway station

Re: Name of Train Station Posted: Thu January 3, 2008 02:15 PM UTC
I have to disagree with the answer re buying in advance, there are often "special price" tickets, for example I typed in 21st January for this route and the special is E29 instead of E122! A considerable saving with the only downside being you are committed to using this particular train. you print your ticket at home and must produce this printout together with the credit card you used when the conductor comes around. There will be a squiggly pattern on the printout that he will scan with a machine.
