| Warsaw | Location of shop or studio for Guy Luy & Hubert dolls Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 02:26 PM UTC
Several years ago I bought a doll in Poland. I'm trying to find a web site for the maker. Or... the shop where I bought it...which was just off the Old Town square. Does anyone know of these dolls?

I know a guy who lives in Warsaw. He has a little girl so probably would know where to find all the dolls for girls :) I am going to email him with your question.

Try SMYK on Al Jerozolimskie, 1 tram stop or 300 yards eastbound from "centrum".
It is all about children and their toys.

Hi Ania! Long time, no hear. Thanks so much for the address of the doll maker. I think you are right. These dolls are for collectors rather than things for children to play with. The one I have is absolutely gorgeous. I'll look for the store again when I get back to Poland. Maybe next year. Thank you so much for your help. I hope you are well.

Thanks for your suggestions and for emailing your friend. The dolls were in a shop that sold many other items...soulvenirs and such. They aren't something little children would play with. Maybe someone will know if they are still making such dolls...still in business.

Yes, I saw this ad for the French doll made in Poland. As they say, the studio may no longer be in existance. I hope to one day discover it in Poland.
Following is exerpts from the other site w/ descriptions. Perhaps someone will discover them. Thank you for trying to help. ===== Le Marquess France 18th Century Guy, Luy & Hubert Doll Studio Poland Le Marquess, in the dress of the 18th century. Made in Cracow according to the tradition of the nineteenth century European doll design, he is approximately 14 inches tall. His head, hands and shoes are hand-formed from cernit (heat hardened resin) and then hand painted. This technique truly imitates the wax originally used in the nineteen century by the European doll makers. The blotched waxy finish recreates the look of a doll true to that era. The body is cloth and all of the clothing is hand sewn using the finest fabrics from the remnants of theatrical and opera costumes, this explains why the dolls are created in very small and limited editions! There were only a few hundred of the different styles created that were imported into the US. We will have two or three others to offer as well. This is from the Guy Luy and Hubert Doll Studio, the first and only existing doll Studio in Poland of a family of two stage designers and handcrafters. However, we are not even sure if the studio exists today.

Is it the French doll you are looking for or another. I still am waiting for my friend in Warsaw to respond. He was away to UK for the holidays so probably still too busy. I'll let you know if I hear anything more. Good Luck to you.

I was not looking for the French doll, but that is what they had to sell on ebay. Mine is a victorian woman. I'll take a pic and put her on my Warsaw page and then I'll send you a post card of the pic. These dolls are extraordinary. You can see that the maker did costume design. The fabrics and detailing are exquisite. I thought I could find a web site for them and see all the various styles. Maybe I must return to that little shop in Warsaw to find more of them. ? Not a bad idea.
