| Negombo | sri lanka with toddlers Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 01:04 PM UTC
Hi, we are planning a six week trip to sri lanka with our 22 month old son. does anyone know of any great child friendly places (on a budget) or if it is possible to buy disposable nappies anywhere?
We're going to have a few days in Negombo, then head up to Kandy and the hill country and then head down to the south coast. Cheers! |

Hi there,
Presume you've prepared well enough and e.g. arranged a visa in your home country (can't get above 30 days in Lanka itself!). Nappies are available in all Western-style supermarkets in the major towns: e.g. Keells, Arpico, Cargills Food City. At western (import) prices though, don't expect normal Lankan prices in these shops! Probably he's a bit young for the Kalu-Aggala Water Park, the main kids leisure park in the country (between Colombo and Avissawella) which has huge slides, 'lazy rivers' and similar fun. Nice for parents too however. Hotels/guesthouses with special kid attention, e.g. playgrounds, you'll find mainly on the beaches. Not much of that known to us in Kandy and Hill country. Hope this helps as a start, feel free to come back if more details needed. All the best, <Erik> & [Sandya]

Would like to add some to Eric's reply -
Yes, disposable nappies are availbe at the mentioned super markets, you will find these in any major city. Toddler: Well, there aren't much places for toddlers in Sri Lanka. Yes, the Kalu-Aggala leasure park is a bit too much for him. I suggest following places. 1. Dehiwala Zoo (Hope he can have some fun looking at the animals) 2. Pinnawala Elephant orphanage 3. Excel World (Colombo) - There are some kiddies games at this place 4. Majestic City (Colombo) - There is a place for kids...yet I'm not sure its suitable for a 2 year old 5. Take him on a train ride... Anyways I do not have any kids my self, so I don't know many other places. If you think you'll be in trouble finding places for toddler, let me know. I will ask some of my friends and get back. There must be places, but one has to have the need.
